1) Sarah McLachlan -- Answer (Rose)

If it takes my whole life
I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
Worth it in the end
'Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright
She said forever, and she meant it. Oh, she knows one day she won't be able to travel with him; someday, it'll be difficult enough to pop down to the shops, much less run from murderous aliens. But she'll give him as long as she can.

2) Songs: Ohia -- Captain Badass (Doctor)

Quote Captain Badass:
"I am setting your heart on fire
So when you leave me
I will burn on in your soul,"
You won't have to think twice
If it's love, you will know
He's never said the words, but Rose understands how he feels about her. At least, he hopes she does.

3) Kaiser Chiefs -- Oh My God (Rose)

Time on your side that will never end
The most beautiful thing you can ever spend
But you work in a shirt with your name tag on it
Drifting apart like a plate tectonic
It don't matter to me
'Cos all I wanted to be
Was a million miles from here
Somewhere more familiar
She doesn't belong there. No matter that her Mum is there, and Mickey, and even her new brother or sister--a Rose Tyler never belonged in that universe. She wants to go home, to be with the Doctor, in the TARDIS, going everywhere and everywhen with the one man she'd ever love.

4) Dan Bern -- God Said No (Doctor)

God said Time
Time belongs to me
Time's my secret weapon
My final advantage
God turned away
From the edge of town
I knew I was beaten
And that now was all I had
He's lost her. After everything they'd faced, he's lost her. He can't even really mourn her--after all, she isn't dead. Just... gone. But he can give her a proper goodbye. It's the least he owes to the woman who'd taught him to live again.

5) R.E.M. -- Aftermath (Rose)

It's easy to dismiss the "what's it all about" crowd
There is no doubt - it's this, here, now
And you close your eyes; he's not coming back
So you work it out, overfeed the cat
And the plants are dry and they need to drink
So you do your best, and you flood the sink
Sit down in the kitchen and cry
She'll never see him again. Never hear his voice ramble on about some planet she's never heard of. Never tease him about his oral fixation and laugh at his affronted look.

Sometimes, she feels like she'll never laugh at all. But that won't stop her from getting up every day, going to work, saving the Earth. It's what she knows best, now.

6) Clay Aiken -- Solitaire (Doctor)

And Solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
And by himself it's easy to pretend
She's coming back again
And keeping to himself he plays the game
Without her love it always ends the same While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing Solitaire
Why does he feel worse than before? He knows he'll never see her again--as he's said, it's impossible. But there's still a tiny flicker of hope, that someday, somehow...

That's what she'd taught him. To hope for more when it felt like he had nothing left.

7) Incubus -- Warning (Acoustic) (Rose)

When she woke in the morning
She knew that her life had passed her by
And she called out a warning
Don't ever let life pass you by
"You're gonna have a great life, kid," she murmurs to the bundle in her arms. "Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Laugh, sing, run--and don't be afraid to love. It's worth it." She swallows. "It's always worth it."

8) The Eagles -- Desperado (Doctor)

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones
That you can't get
He knows Martha has feelings for him. He's not stupid--though, he admits, he can be a bit thick at times. He tries to discourage her attachment. He's a war-scarred, heartsbroken 900-year-old alien--he can't give her what she wants, and she'll only be hurt in the end.

9) Ben Moody feat. Anastacia -- Everything Burns (Rose)

She sits in her corner
Singing herself to sleep
Wrapped in all of the promises
That no one seems to keep
She no longer cries to herself
No tears left to wash away
Just diaries of empty pages
Feelings gone astray
By her brother's twentieth birthday, she realizes she can't deny it anymore... there's something wrong with her. Her tears have long since dried, though--so she becomes angry, instead.

10) Five for Fighting -- Alright (Doctor)

I took her leaving like I did before
I turned around and I asked for more
And she didn’t even mean a thing to me
I left my spirit at the chapel door
I sailed around til I lost the war
And you didn't even think to send a thing
He watches the viewing screen. The slight figure hitches her bag onto her shoulder and gives the TARDIS one final longing glance before heading out into the crowds.

Penny's a great girl, and he is sorry he's hurt her. But he'd given too much of himself, and there's nothing left for her. He hopes she finds someone who deserves her.

Perhaps he should travel alone for a while.

11) 3 Doors Down -- Changes (Rose)

Now I'm going through changes, changes
God, I feel so frustrated lately
When I get suffocated, save me
Now I'm going through changes, changes
"I don't understand! He never said anything like this could happen! What's happening to me, Doctor? What have you done to me?"

12) Sting -- Ghost Story (Doctor)

You were my compass star
You were my measure
You were a pirate's map
Of buried treasure
If this was all correct
The last thing I'd expect
The prosecution rests
It's time that I confess
I must have loved you
Sometimes, he lets himself remember life with Rose. The light she brought, a light he never thought he'd see again after the war. How happy they'd been. How much he'd--

He tries not think about the things he never said.

13) Stars -- He Lied About Death (Rose)

What gives you the right
To fuck with our lives?
A devil born in paradise
A liar loves to lie
Fifty years later, the dreams begin. At first, they're just light; light, and music. Music like she's heard only once before.

"There was this singin'..."
"That's right. I sang a song, and the Daleks ran away."

She wakes, power coursing through her veins, and doesn't bother wondering why the Doctor never told her the truth.

14) A Perfect Circle -- The Package (Rose)

Clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
Eye on what I'm after
I don't need another friend
Smile and drop the cliche
'Til you think I'm listening
I take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again
She's completely alone now. She's never been alone, not in all the time she's been in this world.

Mum and Mickey died so long ago. Baby Jamie had three children, and died at the ripe old age of 103. His last great-grandchild is gone; the last Torchwood Tyler.

They'll be coming for her soon. With the last Director gone, they'll think she's fair game.

She smiles at the guards she passes. It's time to remind them why they should fear the big bad wolf.

15) Ronnie Milsap -- I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World (Doctor)

They say that all good things must end
Love comes and goes just like the wind
You've got your dreams to follow
But if I had the chance tomorrow
You know I'd do it all again
"Doctor? Who's this?" A large blue hand holds out a sheet of glossy paper.

He reaches over for the photograph. It doesn't look any older than the day it had been taken. She's still golden and laughing and beautiful.

"Her name was Rose. She travelled with me a long time ago." He smiles wistfully. "I loved her, once."

16) Norah Jones -- Don't Miss You At All (Rose)

Out my window, I see lights going dark
Your dark eyes don't haunt me
And then I wonder who I am
Without the warm touch of your hand
Another day, another planet, another dictatorship that needs overthrowing. Rose grabs her jacket. "You ready?" she asks her companion.

"For you? Always," he leers. She shakes her head. No matter the universe, no matter his name, that is pure Captain Jack.

"Buy me a drink first," she replies.

"You're such hard work."

"But worth it." She wonders if Jack had ever got to buy the Doctor that drink. She shoves that thought to the back of her mind and opens the hatch.

It's a lot of work, not missing the Doctor.

But worth it.
